Mosteiros

Mosteiros is the most westerly surf spot on São Miguel and one of the island's most charismatic breaks, both for the waves and the surrounding scenery. The black sand beach sits next to the village of the same name, dominated by the famous Mosteiros islets that rise from the ocean like stone sentinels, creating a backdrop that makes any session visually unforgettable. The spot works as a right-hand point break, with the takeoff starting over shallow volcanic rock near the northern headland of the beach, then opening into a long, progressive wall that runs along the sand towards the south. On clean days with the right size, the Mosteiros right offers long, consistent shoulders ideal for flowing bottom turns and wall manoeuvres.

The ideal swell arrives from the west, and the spot benefits from east to northeast offshore winds that groom the face and allow clear readings of incoming sets.
